A Perth mother has said she is terrified to leave home after dashcam footage revealed she was headbutted by a stranger while trying to load a pram into her car.

Ling Chang, 35, had just strapped her three-month-old daughter in the vehicle when the incident occurred on James Street in Northbridge just before 1pm on Wednesday.

The footage published by 7News showed the mother safely securing her baby in the car and folding the pram when a woman walked past before speaking to her.

‘Open it now. Now. Hurry the f*** up. Open the f***ing door,’ the woman can be heard shouting.

Ms Chang can be seen nodding and trying to calm the woman before the stranger tried to grab the pram.

‘Open the door now,’ the stranger said, as Ms Chang repeatedly said ‘please’.

The stranger can then be seen squaring up to the mother before suddenly headbutting her.

‘Help,’ Ms Chang shouted, while keeping a hand to her nose. Two bystanders then approached and scared off the stranger before calling police.

After the incident, Ms Chang said she was ‘really scared’ and did not want to leave her house.

‘I think the most scary part is what happens if I didn’t lock the door,’ she said.

‘What’s going to happen to my baby?’

The mother said she feared what could have happened if bystanders had not intervened.

‘If they were not around, I don’t know what I’m gonna [sic] do because she was obviously attacking me,’ she said.

‘I don’t know… what she was going to do next if she [grabbed] hold of my key, [opened] the car.’

WA Police have charged a 32-year-old woman over the incident.

She appeared before Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday, charged with one count of aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm.

She has been remanded into custody and is next due to appear on August 10.
