A woman has today been charged after four men were stabbed in Covent Garden.

Stella Gollovena, 47, has been charged with four counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one count of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Gollovena, of no fixed address, is due to appear at Highbury Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

Four men, aged 34, 39, 42 and 52, were rushed to a major trauma centre yesterday with non-life-threatening injuries after allegedly being stabbed with a pair of scissors in Endell Street at about 12.30pm.

Scotland Yard said they have all been discharged from hospital.

Police and paramedics arrived within minutes of receiving a 999 call and an air ambulance helicopter was seen landing in nearby Trafalgar Square.

A woman is said to have approached people outside the Shaftesbury Theatre showing the musical Avenue Q.

Two men were reportedly stabbed in the back there ‘with scissors’, before others were attacked further along Endell Street.

One victim was seen with blood spattered across his shirt, while another distressed victim stood with a bandage circling his back and front.

A large police cordon was put up from High Holborn to the St Mungo’s homeless centre in Endell Street, where officers were speaking to people before they entered the building.

Restaurants near the cordon towards Long Acre continued business.

Arjan Gjorga, who manages a fish and chip shop in Endell Street, said the victims were ‘random people who were just walking by’.

A spokesman for St Mungo’s homelessness charity, which works in the Endell Street area, said yesterday: ‘Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by this distressing incident.

‘We are working closely with emergency services to ensure that all of the people we support, in addition to our colleagues, are safe and accounted for.’

The Met’s Chief Supt Jason Stewart, who leads policing in the area, said at the time: ‘Officers responded within minutes of this incident after receiving a number of reports.’

This is a breaking news story. More to follow.
