Ghanaian sprinters Joseph Paul Amoah and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu missed out on podium places in the men’s 100m final at the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championships at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.
Despite impressive performances in the semifinals, both athletes were unable to secure medals in the highly competitive final. Amoah finished fourth, narrowly missing out on a podium spot, while Saminu crossed the line in sixth position.
Saminu had earlier booked his place in the final after winning Heat 2 of the semifinals on Wednesday. Amoah also advanced after a strong showing in Heat 3, where he finished second to qualify for the final showdown.
The duo entered the final with hopes of delivering medals for Ghana on home soil, but faced stiff competition from some of Africa’s top sprinters.
Their performances, however, drew applause from the home crowd as Ghana continued its participation in the continental championship. The African Senior Athletics Championships continue in Accra with several events still scheduled before the competition concludes.
