Black Stars assistant coach Desmond Ofei has described Ghana’s upcoming international friendly against Mexico as a huge opportunity for the selected players to prove themselves to the nation and the new technical team.

The former Black Satellites boss remains part of the national team setup under new head coach Carlos Queiroz after previously working with Otto Addo and believes the game carries great importance beyond being a normal preparatory match.

Speaking to Flashscore, the enterprising tactician explained that the squad selected for the game includes several talented players from the Ghana Premier League together with ambitious U-23 prospects eager to make an impression.

“For the upcoming game against Mexico, we have selected a very talented and ambitious group of players from our local league, alongside some exciting U23 talents and players who are highly motivated to show their qualities to the nation and to our new head coach, Mr Carlos Queiroz,” he said.

Ofei further stressed that the game presents a major platform for players to showcase their quality, discipline and mentality at the international level.

“This match represents more than just a game for us. It is an opportunity for these players to demonstrate the level of talent, character, discipline, and potential that exists within Ghanaian football. We believe strongly in creating opportunities for players who are performing consistently and showing the right mentality,” he added.

The Black Stars will continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with friendly matches against Mexico on May 22, and Wales on June 2.

Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and wrap up the group phase against Croatia on June 27.
