Antoine Semenyo was an unused substitute as Real Madrid completed a dominant aggregate victory over Manchester City to seal progression to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, bringing the Ghanaian forward’s debut campaign in the competition to an end.

Already holding a commanding 3-0 advantage from the first leg at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Madrid arrived at the Etihad Stadium with firm control of the tie. Despite their comfortable lead, the Spanish side showed no signs of easing off, effectively ending any hopes of a comeback from the hosts.

Vinícius Júnior extended Madrid’s dominance from the penalty spot after a handball by Bernardo Silva, who was later sent off, reducing City to ten men and turning the remainder of the contest into a mere formality.

Semenyo, who made his Champions League debut in the first leg, remained on the bench throughout the return fixture as Madrid comfortably saw out the result.

Despite the early exit, the 26-year-old’s journey from lower-tier English football to Europe’s elite competition marks a significant milestone, offering promise for future campaigns at the highest level.
