Ghanaian singer and businesswoman Mzbel is demanding a public retraction and apology from Prophet Fire Oja over remarks she describes as defamatory, insisting the dispute is about clearing her name rather than seeking financial gain.

Speaking to the media on March 11, 2026, the singer said the ongoing court case is driven by her desire to hold the preacher accountable for statements she says are false and damaging to her reputation.

According to Mzbel, the issue is not about money but about ensuring that the claims made about her are withdrawn. She stated that she wants the preacher to take back everything he said about her because the allegations are untrue, adding that once he retracts the comments and apologises, she would be ready to move on without demanding any financial settlement.

She also indicated that being labelled a liar has worsened the dispute, explaining that the accusation is one of the main reasons the matter has escalated to court.

The musician further clarified that she has no personal relationship with the preacher and had never interacted with him before the controversy began. She said she does not know him and had never met or spoken with him prior to the situation.

Mzbel alleged that the preacher’s criticism began after someone used her testimony to promote a project. In her view, the preacher responded by publicly attacking her and encouraging others who already had issues with her to join the criticism.

She explained that she initially hoped the situation could be resolved through a private discussion. However, she now believes the conflict has intensified because the preacher has continued to make public remarks about her, including calling her dishonest, an allegation she firmly rejects.

The singer also said the controversy affected her professional activities and business interests, particularly during a period when she typically receives numerous bookings.

She explained that the matter surfaced around December, a time when she usually performs at many shows and events. According to her, the situation quickly began trending online after the preacher allegedly urged the public to distance themselves from her, even though her work relies heavily on public engagement. She noted that several show opportunities were disrupted as the issue gained attention.

Mzbel stressed that the damage went beyond her music career because she runs several businesses that depend on public patronage. She said young people play a major role in promoting and supporting her ventures, which include a pub, a playground, a restaurant and her music career, and for that reason she felt compelled to defend both her reputation and her businesses.

The dispute traces back to claims made by Prophet Fire Oja, who alleged that the singer suffered serious health complications in 2025 after visiting a traditionalist known as Ola Maame for what he described as a “soul travel” ritual. He claimed the situation resulted in Mzbel being hospitalised for treatment.

The preacher also accused the singer, known for the hit song “16 Years,” of collaborating with the traditionalist to deceive women who visit Ola Maame’s shrine in Kasoa.

Mzbel has strongly rejected those allegations and challenged anyone circulating such claims to provide evidence that she had any negative spiritual encounter with the traditionalist.

Through her legal representatives, the musician later issued a formal notice demanding that the preacher retract his statements, apologise publicly and pay compensation. The letter reportedly gave him ten days to comply.

According to Mzbel, the preacher did not respond to the demands, prompting her to pursue the matter through the courts.
