The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said that the Black Queens are safe in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after being stranded following the Israel-Iran conflict that occurred on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

According to him, he has had extensive engagements with team officials to secure consular support that will ensure their safety as tensions rise.

The minister indicated that he is working assiduously with all agencies in the UAE to prevent any misfortune and to bring the team back to Ghana safely.

“Ghana’s celebrated Black Queens are safe and doing well. I have spoken with the leadership of the team. Our diplomatic mission in the UAE has been in close contact with the Black Queens, extending much-needed consular support. In this turbulent moment, the safety and welfare of all Ghanaians, particularly those currently in the Middle East, remain our utmost priority,” Ablakwa wrote on X.

The Black Queens players and their officials were trapped in the UAE after the country closed its airspace and cancelled all flights due to the Israel-Iran conflict.

According to a report by Joy Sports, the players were confined to their rooms and have been instructed by team officials to pack their luggage in preparation for a possible evacuation.

The Black Queens are currently in Dubai for the Pink Ladies’ Cup, a four-nation tournament organized as part of the international women’s football calendar.

Parts of Dubai, the team’s camping base, reportedly came under Iranian missile attacks targeting US military bases, with some hotels and sections of the airport said to have been impacted.
