Special Advisor to the President, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, has shared her thoughts on the 2026 State of the Nation Address.

She lauded President John Dramani Mahama for his “steadfast” delivery, contrasting his performance with what she described as “tantrums” from the Minority NPP bench.

In a lengthy post on her X page on February 28, 2026, Mogtari asserted that the President’s two-hour address was a comprehensive account of a nation “ready for takeoff.”

Mogtari’s critique centered on the phrase “read the room,” a term she noted had been used by opponents to criticise the President in the past.

She argued that during the February 27, 2026, session, the President demonstrated true emotional intelligence while the Minority struggled to maintain decorum.

“Despite the ‘obstructionists’ antics, President Mahama remained steadfast, drawing from his experience as a former member of parliament who has served on both sides of the aisle,” Mogtari stated.

She added that the President “accurately assessed the nation’s mood and pulse,” delivering an account that resonated with the general public beyond the walls of Parliament.

The Special Aide described the presentation as an elaborate “tour of the entire country,” providing deep insights into key sectors.

According to Mogtari, the President offered a “true and concise overview” of Economy, Trade, Infrastructure, Energy, Health, Agriculture and Education.

She noted that Mahama skillfully interspersed technical data with “meaningful discussions” and lighthearted moments of humour, making the two-hour speech accessible to the average Ghanaian.

Summing up her assessment, Mogtari issued a bold message to the nation and a warning to the opposition.

She claimed the address served as a reassurance that Ghana is in “good hands” and that the government’s developmental strategy is now in “full flight.”

“Mr. President called on the good people of Ghana to fasten their seatbelts because the country was ready for takeoff,” she wrote.

Addressing the opposition directly, she added, “The Minority NPP would do well to read the room and do so accurately… Ghanaians are well pleased with H.E. the President’s performance and leadership.”

The phrase ‘read the room’ has taken on a new meaning. An individual had repeatedly employed this phrase to subtly criticize their opponent, feigning a grudge. This came to mind as I watched a small group of NPP MPs throwing tantrums in parliament.
