President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has emphasised that Ghana’s economic growth will not be driven solely by traditional sectors but also by human creativity through tourism and the creative arts.

Delivering the 2026 State of the Nation Address before Parliament on Friday, 27 February 2026, the President highlighted the expanding role of creative industries and new media as key contributors to national development and Ghana’s global recognition.

“Our tourism and creative arts sector has a lot to offer. Creatives using the new media are giving our nation greater prominence than we could have achieved through any first-class traditional media outlet,” Mahama told Parliament.

He said the economy must diversify beyond such traditional sectors to include areas where human creativity thrives, sectors that can absorb workers displaced by advancing technologies such as artificial intelligence.

“Our economy will not be built only by traditional sectors but also by human creativity; sectors that will absorb those people who will be displaced from the shop floor by the new AI technologies that are being rolled out,” he added.

The President’s comments come as his administration continues efforts to leverage Ghana’s cultural assets for economic growth, including initiatives like The Black Star Experience, which aims to position Ghana as a global cultural and tourism hub.
