Ghanaian singer Kelvyn Boy has cautioned critics to refrain from constantly scrutinising and criticising him.

In an interview with Nana Romeo, shared on Instagram on February 26, 2026, the singer addressed the backlash he faces whenever videos of him smoking surface online.

He said critics should allow him to live his life without unnecessary judgment.

Why most Ghanaian artistes sound Nigerian – Kelvyn Boy explains

Kelvyn Boy explained that creatives go through personal struggles that the public may not understand, adding that smoking serves as a form of escape from his pain.

“When we smoke the other one, you people complain. Cigarettes, too, you complain. You don’t know what we are going through. If you did, you would smoke as well.

“Let me live my life. You haven’t seen me involved in any robbery or anything bad, so leave me alone,” he said.

The singer further cited instances where Nigerian artistes are allowed to engage freely in similar activities without public backlash.

According to him, Ghanaians often remain silent when foreign artistes do such things in their music videos but criticise local musicians for doing the same.

“Nigerians come here and do whatever they want. These same things appear in their videos, and nobody talks. But when we do the same thing, Ghanaians complain.

“They should leave us alone because we can’t face this life being sober,” he added.
