The Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has described Ghanaian dancehall star Stonebwoy as the country’s most prominent cultural ambassador, following his standout performance with Grammy-winning artiste Angélique Kidjo at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

In an interview with Umaru Sanda on Channel One TV, which aired on February 24, 2025, Gomashie highlighted how creatives can significantly promote Ghanaian culture on the global stage.

She pointed to Stonebwoy’s collaboration with Angélique Kidjo as a vivid example of Ghana’s cultural influence abroad.

She cited the historic performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall in November 2023, where Stonebwoy shared the stage with internationally celebrated singer Angélique Kidjo as they performed their hit collaboration ‘Mandozi.’

“The work that Stonebwoy has been doing; look at his work with Angelique Kidjo. It’s a masterpiece,” she said.

Why Tourism Ministry chose Wednesdays as Fugu Day

According to Dzifa Gomashie, Stonebwoy was Ghana’s most important ambassador at that moment.

“In that moment, he was the most important ambassador for this country. And no disrespect to the diplomatic community, but on that stage, he was Ghana. That is the power of creativity,” she added.

She noted that the performance was rich in both language and message and that it resonated with audiences across countries because of the shared cultural language.

“It was in the language, it was in the message, and it was in the people who did it…. The language is spoken in all these countries, and they have this common language that they can create their music around,” she said.
