A Basic 5 pupil of Falahiyat E/A Primary School in the Savannah Region has been hospitalised after he was allegedly flogged with a wire by his teacher.
According to multiple reports, the incident occurred after the pupil scored two out of eight in his homework.
He was among a group of students reportedly punished for their poor performance.

The teacher, only identified as Fatawu, allegedly instructed the affected pupils to lie on dual desks in the classroom before allegedly beating them on their backs and other parts of their bodies with a wire cane.
Speaking to Channel One TV on Sunday, February 1, 2026, the pupil’s father, Abdul Wahidu Mahama, stated, “My son tried to shield himself with his hand, but the teacher continued to beat him and verbally abused the children because of their low marks.”
After home treatment failed to ease the child’s pain, the family took him to Damongo St Anne’s Catholic Hospital, where he was admitted.
