The National House of Chiefs has appealed to all citizens to uphold democratic principles, discourage any form of electoral manipulation, and contribute to a peaceful election process.

This message comes amid heightened vigilance about potential election-related unrest, with the Chiefs underscoring the need for free, fair, and transparent elections.

In a statement issued on Friday, 1 November 2024, signed by its Registrar, Anthony Yeboah Tabiri, the National House of Chiefs, called on Ghanaians to respect the rule of law as the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections draw near.

“The National House of Chiefs urges all Ghanaians to uphold the law, especially with the December 7th elections approaching,” the statement said.

It further noted the country’s distinguished record of democratic governance and peaceful power transitions.

“Ghana proudly boasts of three decades of democratic elections and peaceful transfer of power, earning recognition as West Africa’s beacon of democracy.”

The National House of Chiefs emphasised that election integrity is a shared responsibility, urging all stakeholders, from political parties to the media, to refrain from actions that could undermine Ghana’s democratic standing.

“All citizens should refrain from undermining democracy through electoral manipulation, violence, or media coercion,” the statement stressed.

The National House of Chiefs also urged the Electoral Commission (EC) and related bodies to ensure impartiality in administering the elections, noting that unbiased processes are fundamental for public confidence.
