Ghanaian artiste Deon Boakye has claimed that nearly all singers in Ghana’s music industry depend on auto-tune to make their music sound polished.

Speaking during an appearance on the Frankly Speaking podcast, the singer said while he would not mention specific names, it is a reality that cannot be ignored.

“Most Ghanaian singers use auto-tune. I’m not going to mention names, but I’d say that about 98% of them rely on it, and I’m being honest,” he stated.

According to Deon, live vocal performance is where the true test of an artiste’s ability lies, and many would struggle to deliver without the assistance of technology.

He further emphasised that only a handful of artistes are capable of sounding as good as they do in the studio.

“In Ghana, if we were to perform live music right here for you to enjoy, aside from Samini, I would be the next best option,” he added.

Deon Boakye rose to fame in 2017 when he was nominated for the ‘Unsung Artiste’ category at the Ghana Music Awards.

Unfortunately, he lost to former Lynx Entertainment signee, Kuami Eugene.

Since then, Deon Boakye has worked with several artistes in the industry, including Yaa Pono, Kofi Kinaata, Kojo Cue, and Medikal, among others.
