The 2024 edition of the prestigious Captain One Golf Society’s Invitational Championship is set for January 17-19 at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi and the Obuasi Golf Club.

The championship, which would be the 8th Major, would begin at the club on Friday with the first-of-its-kind Footgolf competition preceding the main competition to tee off on Saturday.

For the first time, the tournament would be played at two venues which would see Obuasi Golf Club hosting day two of the golf tournament where winners would be crowned.

According to organisers, the new addition, Footgolf, would present an opportunity for many people including non-golfers to experience playing on the golf course and get familiar with the new sport.

Speaking ahead of the event, President of the Captain One Golf Society, Mr Pius Ayeh Appiah, disclosed that for the first time, female golfers under the Captain One Kids Project would join the amateur and professional golfers to compete for the ultimate prize of a giant trophy and cash prize.

“We intend to provide the same playing field for our young golfers to compete for glory. This would give them the exposure and experience to become great professionals,” he stated.

“We are ready to host another major golf event and call on sponsors to come on board to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in society since proceeds from the competition are dedicated to charity,” he added.

This year’s competition would attract the likes of Vincent Torgah (a former winner) who would attempt to dethrone the defending champion, Kwabena Poku, for the ultimate trophy.

As usual, the amateur golfers are gearing up to beat the professionals for the trophy while the ladies would also attempt to win for the first time.

Fast-rising female golfer, Ayisha Aminu, who emerged from the Captain One Kids Project has also promised to make a huge mark in the competition.

The 18-year-old, who has been nominated for this year’s Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards’ Discovery of the Year, is looking forward to stepping into the shoes of some of the best female golfers in the country and beyond
