Two lorries carrying 400 bags of cocoa were seized by the Ghana Cocoa Board’s (COCOBOD) Anti-Cocoa Smuggling Taskforce at Kwahu Nketepa, in the Eastern region.

This was done on Saturday in collaboration with the Nketepa Community Watchdog Committee.

They were shipping the illegal cocoa beans to Togo.

According to Anthony Ablor, the Watchdog Committee’s commander, they received a tip approximately a week ago and were able to stop the two trucks at around one in the morning.

Despite the fact that the drivers and their companions fled, the police detained them and are now helping with their investigations.

Bosu Yaw, the Assembly representative for the Nketepa Electoral Area, told Adom News that the region has been a haven for smugglers and that they have increased monitoring to combat the illegal activity.

In order to improve their work, Mr. Bosu took advantage of the occasion to request that the government provide logistics, especially motorcycles.

In the meantime, COCOBOD has pledged to compensate anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest of cocoa smugglers.
