Black Stars forward, Jordan Ayew, is set to captain the team in their games against Angola and Niger in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, ghanasoccernet.com reports.

The report added that head coach Otto Addo had a serious conversation with Jordan to iron out issues concerning his role in the Black Stars.

According to ghanasoccernet.com, the decision is aimed at calming tension in the team to motivate the striker amid the team’s terrible performances.

This comes after there were reports of the Leicester City midfielder being aggrieved with the fact that Mohammed Kudus was named the captain in the team’s double-header against Sudan in October 2024.

Sports journalist Saddick Adams disclosed that Jordan Ayew, being the most experienced player in the Black Stars, was not pleased with Otto Addo’s decision to give Kudus the captaincy.

In the two games Kudus captained the team against Sudan, the Black Stars drew goalless at the Accra Sports Stadium and lost 2-0 in the return leg in Libya.

This sparked outrage on social media, with members of the public continuing to voice their grievances over the poor performances of the national teams.

The Black Stars are on the brink of failing to qualify for the AFCON for the first time in 20 years.

After four matches played, Ghana are third in Group F with two points, Sudan are in second place with seven points, while Angola lead with twelve points.

Ghana must win against Niger and Angola and hope Sudan loses their remaining matches to secure qualification.
