20 final-year students of Ada Senior High School in the Greater Accra Region have been dismissed after sneaking off campus to swim in a nearby river, an act that tragically led to the death of one of their colleagues.

A viral video circulated on social media on Saturday, June 21, 2025, captured the students being addressed during an assembly.

In the footage, a woman believed to be the headmistress detailed the disciplinary action.

“Your parents will come and wait patiently for you. When you finish, they will take you back till you are done with your WASSCE papers. If your parents do not have time, that one is between you and them. It is your business,” she told the students.

Reports indicate that the body of the deceased student has since been retrieved, and investigations into the matter have commenced.

The drowning incident at Ada SHS comes shortly after a similar tragedy at Lawra Senior High School in the Upper West Region.

On Saturday morning, June 14, 2025, 7 students drowned in the Dikpe River after their canoe capsized during an early morning jogging routine. They had attempted to cross the river using the canoe.
