Two Kenyan athletes emerged winners of the 2026 KGL Foundation Millennium Marathon held in Accra on Saturday.

Alex Korio won the men’s 21-kilometre elite race, while Lucy Ndambuki triumphed in the women’s category.

The event, which attracted thousands of athletes, was held in line with the KGL Foundation’s mental health initiative, the Mental Health Index (MHI), which seeks to raise awareness, dispel myths and provide resources to advance mental health in Ghana.

The Chief Executive Officer of the KGL Foundation, Elliot Dadey, said this year’s marathon focused on promoting holistic wellness, building on a corporate wellness forum organised earlier in the year.

He said the forum introduced a health and fitness index to rank corporate organisations based on physical and mental well-being, as well as community engagement, through expert-led sessions on fitness, stress management and nutrition.

Mr Dadey said the massive turnout and success of the marathon reflected ongoing efforts to build a holistically ‘fit’ nation.

He said the race provided a platform to promote physical fitness, mental wellness and community development, while cementing its place as Ghana’s flagship international road race.

Beyond the marathon, Mr Dadey said the KGL Foundation had, over the past five years, undertaken several social interventions across the country.

These include the construction of the KGL-EVE Wellness Centre, described as the first mental health facility north of Accra; the renovation of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital; the rollout of the Mental Health Index; significant investment in juvenile football through the KGL U-17 Championship; support for the Black Stars; and the provision of incubators to hospitals and other health facilities nationwide.
