A light aircraft has crashed at Tema Community 1, Site 18, yesterday, killing at least two people on board.

The victims, both men, have not yet been identified and were burnt beyond recognition.

The origin and destination of the aircraft, registered 9G-ADV, remain unknown at the time of reporting.

The aircraft itself was completely destroyed by fire.

Emergency services, including the Police, Fire Service, and other security personnel, were quick to respond.

The Ghanaian Times arrived on the scene shortly after the crash.

Divisional Officer II and Public Relations Officer of the Tema Regional Office of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Ebenezer Kwesi Yenzu, told reporters that the crash occurred at around 12:21 pm.

The aircraft went down at the compound of the Tema Metropolitan Day Care Centre while pupils and teachers were in session.

Fortunately, all the children and staff were safely evacuated, with no injuries reported.

According to Divisional Officer Yenzu, residents initially tried to put out the fire before emergency services took over the operation.

“The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the mortuary for autopsy and preservation,” he added.

The area has been cordoned off to prevent curious residents from interfering with the site. Experts from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority’s (GCAA) Accident Investigations Bureau, along with top security personnel, arrived at scene to begin their investigations.
