In a devastating incident that has plunged the Saviour Church of Ghana and the entire Obogu community into mourning, at least fifteen church members have been confirmed dead following a fatal accident on the Kumasi-Accra highway.

The tragic incident occurred on the afternoon of Monday, July 28, around 2:30 p.m., on the Atwedie stretch of the busy highway. According to eyewitnesses and preliminary reports, the accident involved a head-on collision between a bus carrying the church members and a fuel tanker that was travelling in the opposite direction.

The victims, believed to be congregants of the Saviour Church of Ghana, were reportedly returning home to Obogu in the Asante Akyem South Municipality after attending their church’s annual convention in the Eastern Region.

Emergency response teams arrived at the scene shortly after the crash. Sadly, fifteen individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while several others sustained critical injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. The exact number of injured persons is yet to be confirmed.

Authorities from the Ghana Police Service and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have since commenced investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident, with early speculation pointing to possible brake failure or driver fatigue as contributing factors.

The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem South, local officials, and church leaders have expressed profound sorrow over the incident and are calling for immediate support for the bereaved families.

This tragic loss has once again sparked concerns over road safety on Ghana’s highways, with calls for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, routine vehicle inspections, and increased public education on safe driving practices.

As the nation mourns, families and loved ones of the deceased are left grappling with the shocking loss of faithful members of their community lives that were cut short on a journey of faith.
