George Abeka Mensah was named as the best referee at GFA’s U-15 Championship

A 14-year-old student at Besease Methodist Junior High School in Ghana’s Central Region, George Abeka Mensah was crowned as the Best Referee of the Tournament at the recently ended GFA Elite U-15 Boys Colts Championship.

Officiating the final match between Northern and Ashanti Regions, Mensah showed a remarkable display of talent, composure and confidence.

Mensah’s precise decision-making captivated fans, players, and dignitaries alike, earning him applause for his spot-on calls.

As a product of the Ghana Football Association’s Catch Them Young Refereeing initiative, Mensah’s standout performance highlighted his potential as a rising star in football officiating.

His ability to manage the high stakes final with authority has been hailed as a testament to the effectiveness of the Catch Them Young initiative which aims to build a strong pipeline of skilled referees in the country.

As Northern Region clinched the championship title via a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw, Mensah walked away with the Best Referee accolade and the applauds of the spectators.
