The head coach of the Zambia national team, Moses Sichone, has been suspended by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over licence‑requirement issues just days before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

CAF regulations require that all coaches leading national teams at major tournaments must hold a CAF A or CAF Pro licence to be eligible.

Although the 48‑year‑old holds a UEFA A coaching licence, he does not possess the CAF‑required certification, leading to his disqualification from leading the AFCON‑winning side.

This development is a major blow to the Chipolopolo, as Sichone guided them through the qualifiers and built a cohesive, competitive team for the tournament.

He took over from former Chelsea manager Avram Grant and successfully developed a squad with strong chemistry, understanding, and structure.

Zambia is in Group A alongside host nation Morocco, Comoros, and Mali.

With the 2025 AFCON scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, four teams have already arrived, with 19 more expected in the coming days.

Twenty‑four teams will compete for continental glory, with Egypt, Morocco, Senegal, defending champions Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and others aiming to make history.
