After a stellar performance at the 2024 WAFCON, Ghana’s Black Queens have received a heartfelt congratulatory message from the Vice President, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
The team’s bronze medal victory has filled the nation with excitement and pride, and the Vice President’s statement reflects the widespread appreciation of their efforts.
The congratulatory message of the Vice President, Opoku-Agyemang, was relayed to the team at a dinner celebration in Accra on July 29, 2025.
“We’re not surprised at all. We gladly congratulate you and know that you can achieve even more as you move forward. We want to encourage you to continue doing your best,” she stated.
The Vice President praised the team’s resilience, skill, and determination throughout the tournament.
“It wasn’t long ago when we witnessed the Black Queens encouraging young girls in football. There are times when we all need to recognise that we are all ordinary people, regardless of gender. When given the opportunity, we can express ourselves in ways that are both acceptable and legally permissible,” she added.
Her remarks stressed the importance of the team’s achievement in inspiring young girls and women throughout the country.
“I want to congratulate you once again. As you continue forward, remember that while you are the Black Queens, many people have contributed to your success. Your parents have played a role, as have your friends. As you acknowledge others, let’s not forget the coaches, photographers, musicians, and all the behind-the-scenes including individuals who have made this journey possible. Sometimes, we stand in the spotlight, but many faceless people have paved the way for us. Moving forward, we must ensure that we create opportunities for the Black Queens to reach their full potential,” she emphasised.
The government’s dedication to supporting women’s sports and the Black Queens’ future efforts will significantly influence WAFCON.
“This is a dinner celebration, and I don’t want to stand between you and your meal by speaking too long. We are here to congratulate you and to encourage you to keep up the good work,” she said.
The team’s success has ignited renewed optimism and enthusiasm for women’s football in Ghana.
