In a significant prelude to one of Africa’s premier youth climate conferences, the leadership of the African Youth Gender and Climate Conference (AYGCC) has paid a courtesy call on the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, securing his presence as Special Guest of Honor for the upcoming event. The high-level delegation was led by Ms. Maudlyn Akosua Awuku, Founder and CEO of Anijie Global Foundation, accompanied by Mr. Emmanuel “Nuelz” Ehun, Project Coordinator, and key members of the organizing committee.
The annual conference, scheduled for November 29, 2024, at the British Council Accra, represents a convergence of Africa’s young climate advocates, policymakers, and industry leaders. This year’s theme, “Resilient Africa: Youth-Led Innovation for Climate Action and Gender Equity,” underscores the continent’s growing youth-led movement towards sustainable development and gender inclusivity.
The AYGCC has already demonstrated its commitment to practical action through several pre-conference initiatives. These include implementing comprehensive recycling programs across partner schools, championing youth-driven climate proposals at COP, and spearheading environmental conservation through strategic tree planting initiatives in schools and communities. The organization has also launched impactful climate leadership programs, coupled with robust advocacy campaigns focusing on waste management and climate action sensitization. These on-ground activities have been further enhanced by monthly virtual workshops connecting participants with global climate experts, ensuring a blend of local action and international expertise.
AYGCC has established itself as a pivotal platform where young African leaders convene to address climate challenges while championing gender inclusivity. The forum plays a crucial role in empowering youth to develop and implement innovative, inclusive solutions for sustainable development across the continent.
The conference is being convened by Anijie Global Foundation, a distinguished youth-led non-profit organization that has earned recognition for its work in empowering women and young people through education and leadership development. The foundation’s three-pronged focus on Education, Gender Equality, and Climate Action has positioned it as a catalyst for positive community impact and global progress.
“Our foundation’s mission aligns perfectly with the urgency of addressing climate change while ensuring gender equity,” stated Ms. Awuku during the courtesy call. “King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II’s acceptance to grace this occasion adds significant weight to our collective efforts and reinforces the importance of traditional leadership in environmental stewardship.”
Through its comprehensive approach, Anijie Global Foundation equips young people with essential skills and knowledge for leadership, fostering a culture of initiative-taking and community engagement to create meaningful change across Africa and beyond.
The British Council, a key supporter of this year’s conference, reinforces the event’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
