A young man, identified as Justice Kojo Antwi, also known as Oyuokyɛ, was killed on Sunday afternoon after being run over by a tipper truck near Obaa Golden Plaza in the Birim North District.
According to the victim’s father, known as Okit, the family had spent the morning together at home. Around midday, Kojo and his sister left for the local station. Okit later arrived at the same location in search of a friend.
While at the station, Kojo was approached by a peer who asked him to help retrieve a motorcycle from Abirem. Kojo agreed and left with friends. The fatal accident occurred shortly thereafter.
Reports indicate that the crash was caused by a tipper truck driver who was allegedly speeding and entered a junction without checking for oncoming traffic. The impact resulted in severe injuries to Kojo.
The driver reportedly fled the scene but was later tracked down and arrested by officers of the New Abirem Police, with assistance from Kojo’s friends. The driver was subsequently taken to a hospital under police supervision.
Kojo was rushed to the New Abirem Government Hospital, but his father arrived to find that his son had already succumbed to his injuries.
The victim’s mother, Abena Ketewa, expressed deep grief and called for justice. “I want the government and the police to enforce the law and ensure that those responsible for my son’s death are held accountable,” she said.
