A nine-year-old girl has died after she was pulled unconscious from a backyard pool.

Emergency services raced to the home in Rosaki Close, Edensor Park, in south-western Sydney, about 4.30pm on Sunday afternoon after the child had been discovered.

A bystander reportedly had administered CPR until the paramedics arrived to the home.

Paramedics then rushed the girl to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where she has since died.

The incident saw the typically-quiet cul-de-sac in Sydney’s south west inundated with emergency vehicles on Sunday afternoon.

Several ambulance workers, including a medical team including a doctor and intensive care paramedics, treated the nine-year-old at the property.

A spokesman for NSW Police said officers of the Fairfield City Police Area Command are investigating the circumstances leading up to the drowning.

Police remained on the scene until Sunday night.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

It comes following a spate of drownings across Australia over summer, as at least 83 people have passed in the nation’s waterways and swimming pools.
