The Effie-Kuma Astroturf in Takoradi, Western Region, became the stage for West Africa’s rising football stars as six competitive teams converged for the maiden edition of a two-day scouting tournament.

The West Africa Football Talent Hunt event, held on Wednesday, November 27, and Thursday, November 28, brought together Bis Paradise Sporting Club, Fijai United Soccer Academy, West Ridge United, Sedan Academy, Team Move FC, and Future Stars in a thrilling showcase of talent and skill.

Organized as part of efforts to unearth and promote West Africa’s budding football talents, the tournament attracted Matjaz Voglar, a distinguished European football scout from Slovenia, and Abaidoo Abednego, Lead FIFA Football Agent from Gfarok Sporting Agency. The two experts were on a mission to assess the raw talents and identify players with the potential to excel in the competitive European football market.

The event saw high-intensity matches as the teams vied for recognition and an opportunity to advance their careers beyond the shores of Africa. Players displayed incredible athleticism, tactical awareness, and teamwork, making it a challenging yet exciting task for the scouts to pinpoint the best talents.

In his remarks, Matjaz Voglar praised the players for their dedication and technical abilities. “There is incredible potential here in Ghana and across West Africa. I am excited about what the future holds for some of these young players,” he noted.

Abaidoo Abednego also commended the initiative, emphasizing the importance of creating platforms like these for young players. “It is vital to bridge the gap between local talent and international opportunities. This tournament is a step in the right direction,” he said.

The maiden edition of the tournament marks the beginning of a promising venture aimed at establishing Ghana and West Africa as a hub for discovering top football talent. Organizers are optimistic about expanding the event in the coming years to include more teams and scouts, ultimately boosting the region’s football prospects on the global stage.

This milestone event has not only showcased the immense talent within the region but has also reinforced the belief that West African football has a bright future.
