Francis Amuzu, a Belgian player of Ghanaian descent, has received heavy criticisms on social media after expressing his desire to play for the Black Stars following their qualification for the World Cup.

In an interview that has gone viral online, the Grêmio attacker stated that his heart leans toward Ghana and that he is ready to play for the national team if called upon by the technical team.

Amuzu also congratulated the team on securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup and said he hopes to be part of the squad for the tournament.

His remarks have sparked fierce opposition from some Ghanaian football fans, who have outrightly rejected the idea of him joining the team.

They argue that while Amuzu was in top form playing for Belgian side Anderlecht, he refused to represent Ghana when approached by officials from the Ghana Football Association.

Now that the nation has qualified for the World Cup, they claim he wants to use the opportunity to reignite his dead career, something they believe should not be allowed under any circumstance.

Some aggrieved fans have called for Amuzu to be denied a call-up to the national team regardless of his form, insisting that a local player should be selected instead to promote the Ghana Premier League.

Others stated that those who sacrificed for the country during the qualifiers should be rewarded.

    Read the reactions below:

🚨 The latest dual national who says he is “ready to play for Ghana” is Francis Amuzu.

Personal opinion: he is a winger, and CURRENTLY we have enough good wingers — all better than he is or deserving to grow with the core team.pic.twitter.com/tWXPI2RIeg

What do these players take us for ? If you rejected a call up when the country needed you and wanted to represent Belgium fair enough. But stick to that.. it is not the initial preference that is the problem, it’s the sharp U-turns. World Cup is looming so I’m ready 🤣🤣🤣

He’s a good player but the way he disrespected Ghana as a nation is enough let him play for which ever country he wants aside Ghana

We don’t even need him. He should sit somewhere

    — Nana Kwame Asimeni (@nka_gha) October 17, 2025

He should stay at Belgium, we don’t want him please

Our Local Stars can equally do what he did in the vid. The question is how many goals did he score last season ??

Sorry we aren’t calling you. We will take those who worked for it to the World Cup even if we get out of group stages. Come and play qualifiers in Africa, and the we will consider you.
