Ghanaian rapper, Edem, has openly criticised some government appointees fingered in several cases of wide-scale embezzlement and money laundering scandals.

In a post on X on June 16, 2025, Edem questioned the value of formal education among such high-profile individuals who attain many degrees and still engage in embezzlement.

“You people go attend all the school in the world but not have the brains to figure out how to multiply money but only steal… So, what is the school for?” he asked.

His post comes in response to damning public revelations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the Attorney General, outlining widespread misappropriation in government agencies.

Earlier in June 2025, an audit revealed that the National Service Scheme payroll included approximately 81,885 fictitious names, while only 98,145 actual service personnel were confirmed, out of a previously listed 180,030 names.

This payroll fraud reportedly cost the state around GH¢50 million monthly, totaling roughly GH¢704 million annually.

In response, President Mahama ordered investigations, declared suspects wanted, froze assets, and directed the National Investigations Bureau to probe the scandal under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) framework.

Additionally, Kwabena Adu‑Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), was arrested by EOCO on charges of embezzling approximately GH¢49 million (about US$7 million) by diverting state funds through his company BNC Communications in a cyber-defence software deal.
