MzGee has been commenting on the IShowSpeed visit to Ghana

Media personality MzGee has raised questions about the role of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in the itinerary of American streamer IShowSpeed, following what she describes as contradictory public statements by the Authority’s Deputy CEO, Abeiku Santana, after the influencer’s recent visit to Ghana.

According to her, initial public communications from the Ghana Tourism Authority and its leadership appeared to welcome and anticipate the visit, but were later followed by claims that the Authority had no hand in planning the streamer’s activities.

Referencing a report by GBC Online, MzGee noted that the GTA had publicly stated it was pleased to welcome IShowSpeed and looked forward to providing him with an enriching tourism experience.

“The Ghana Tourism Authority is pleased to welcome IShowSpeed. We look forward to providing him with an enriching experience, exploring our heritage and cultural sites, as well as participating in our eco-tourism activities,” the statement read.

However, she later pointed out remarks from the Authority stating that it only offered advice and did not influence the itinerary.

“This is the same man who later says they didn’t have a hand in his itinerary, yet advised him. If you advised him, you were sure of what he was going to be exposed to,” she said.

She further cited a second GTA-related update acknowledging the online attention generated by IShowSpeed’s visit and encouraging Ghanaians to actively engage with his live streams, some of which reportedly ran for up to nine hours.

“Clearly, there were talks,” MzGee argued. “Advice is influence. Advice is knowing what is going to happen.”

IShowSpeed, born Darren Watkins Jr., is a globally popular YouTuber and livestreamer with millions of followers.

He visited Ghana recently as part of a broader Africa tour, documenting his experiences through extended live streams that attracted massive international viewership.

During his stay, he visited major landmarks including the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Independence Square, interacted with fans, and sampled local cuisine, moments that quickly went viral online and placed Ghana at the centre of global digital conversations around tourism and culture.
