Diocesan Bishop of Obuasi Methodist Church, Right Reverend Hayford Aduse-Poku
The Diocesan Bishop of the Obuasi Methodist Church, Right Reverend Hayford Aduse-Poku, has entreated his members and all Ghanaians to vote for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December 7 polls.
He cited the Free Senior High School policy as one of the most beneficial programmes rolled out by the NPP, as it has helped lessen the burdens of many parents and guardians.
Bishop Aduse-Poku also lauded the government for the construction of several roads, including the one from Juaben to Kumawu.
He stated that failing to vote for the continuation of this good system would lead to the permanent downfall of everyone.
He also entreated electorates not to let politics sway their minds but to consider the facts on the ground before casting their ballots.
In a viral video sighted by GhanaWeb, the Diocesan Bishop of the Obuasi Methodist Church said, “People should be grateful for what people did… pastors here can testify that we’re in trouble at the end of the year because we are looking for money to pay the school fees of people.”
“Personally, I’ve taken care of four children, and some are at the university. If you look at their background, they are so brilliant but have no way to pay. So if people are criticizing free education, not some of us. I have to criticize because I paid fees, but no. In spite of all these, look at the road from Juaben to my hometown, Kumawu…” he stated.
Right Reverend Hayford Aduse-Poku further noted, “Your fate is in your hands. Don’t think what happened is for political reasons but know for a fact that if you don’t vote for this system to continue, you stand to lose, and you are doomed forever. I pray that you don’t let politics sway your good minds but be principled, face the facts on the ground… You don’t go to school free with party cards.”
The introduction of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is said to be one of the most transformative educational reforms in Ghana’s history.
The policy was introduced in 2017 to alleviate financial burdens on parents while providing quality and accessible secondary education in Ghana.
