A prominent morning show host on Angel TV/FM, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, got into a heated altercation with a police officer at a gas station in a dramatic event that was caught on camera. Those who were watching were alarmed when the late-night altercation almost became violent.

Afrifa is seen on camera challenging the officer, threatening to have him arrested if he thought Afrifa’s actions were illegal. Afrifa’s recent drive to reveal purportedly dishonest gasoline station practices—where patrons are allegedly given less fuel than they pay for—seems to be the root of this altercation.

According to GH Page, tensions during this event might have increased as a result of his investigation.

Following the clash, Afrifa took to the studio to clarify the situation, stating that he allegedly “hit the officer’s chest.” He also reported that he was taken to the police station, where his phones were seized, further complicating the narrative.

On Facebook, Ghanaians have voiced a variety of views. Some have praised Afrifa’s fight against corruption, while others have attacked the police’s response. His bravery was commended by some users, who said, “At last, someone is exposing these fuel station scams!” On the other hand, several expressed alarm about the potential consequences of clashes with law enforcement, arguing that they might erode public confidence in the police.

The event has spurred conversations about accountability in the police force and the gasoline sector as the video goes viral on social media. This dispute not only clarifies persistent problems in Ghana’s gasoline industry, but it also highlights the difficulties in maintaining control over the media. The interaction between Afrifa and the policeman highlights important discussions about consumer protection and law enforcement in Ghana and calls for more research on these urgent problems.
