The late gospel legend, Yaw Sarpong and the late Maame Tiwaa The late gospel legend, Yaw Sarpong and the late Maame Tiwaa

The son of late gospel legend, Yaw Sarpong, has disclosed that his father passed away without knowing about the demise of his close associate, Maame Tiwaa.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM on January 22, 2026, he disclosed that the family deliberately withheld the information from Yaw Sarpong due to concerns about his health and emotional state.

According to him, although news of Maame Tiwaa’s death was widely circulated on social media, Yaw Sarpong remained unaware because he was not active online.

“No one informed him about Maame Tiwaa’s death. Everything was going on social media, but because he wasn’t active, he didn’t know about it,” he said.

Why Yaw Sarpong was moved from Bishop JY Adu’s home before demise – Son explains

He explained that the decision to keep the news from his father was taken because of the deep bond Yaw Sarpong shared with Maame Tiwaa, which spanned several decades.

“The reason why we didn’t inform him was that my father and Maame Tiwaa knew each other from their young age till they grew old.

“The kind of relationship and bond they both had was very strong,” he explained.

He said the family feared the news might worsen Yaw Sarpong’s condition at the time.

“We knew the news would break him, and since we wanted to recover faster, we had to hide the news from him,” he added.
