The Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, Yaa-Naa Abukari II, has paid a courtesy call on President John Dramani Mahama, at the Presidency in Accra last Thursday.

The visit was for the Overlord to offer his congratulations to President Mahama on his re-election in December 2024 and express support for his leadership and vision for the nation.

In a congratulatory message delivered on behalf of the Yaa-Naa by Naa Bapir Zangbaling-Naa, Dr Jacob Yakubu Mahama, Paramount Chief of Zangbalinga, the Dagbon overlord commended the President for the leadership he has brought to bear since assuming office.

He conveyed the Dagbon people’s appreciation to the President for his ongoing efforts to revitalise the Ghanaian economy and promote inclusive governance.

“Mr President, I am happy to be here today with my chiefs and elders to offer our warmest congratulations to you and the good people of Ghana on your assumption of office,” the Yaa-Naa said.

“This marks a new chapter in Ghana’s development journey, and I am confident your leadership will usher in an era of growth, peace, and prosperity.”

The Overlord lauded President Mahama’s swift actions to restore economic stability, citing the sustained appreciation of the Ghana Cedi against major trading currencies.

He was full of praise for President Mahama for his decision to reduce the size of government, strengthen cabinet efficiency, and introduce a Code of Conduct for appointees, describing these initiatives as “landmark steps toward transparency and accountability.”

The Yaa-Naa also commended the President’s efforts to engage citizen in decision making, referencing the recently held National Economic and Education Dialogues as powerful examples of inclusive leadership.

“By bringing together experts, stakeholders, and citizens from all walks of life, you have shown a willingness to listen, learn, and adapt. These dialogues are shaping a long-term vision for Ghana’s development,” he added wished the President well in the rest of his tenure.

On his part, President Mahama expressed appreciation to the Yaa-Naa for the support and counsel he’s always made available to him.

He reiterated his administration’s resolve to work closely with traditional authorities to bring development close to the people.

“Tradition is foundational, this government will not sideline traditional rulers. We will partner with you, we will listen to your wise counsel. We will honor your place in the national architecture of governance,” the President stated.

He assured the Yaa-Naa of his Government’s commitment to give Dagbon and the Northern Regiin as a while its fair share of the national cake.
