Ghanaian filmmaker and actress Xandy Kamel has accused Fast TV of airing her newly released movie, “Unseen Beauty,” without her permission.

In a video shared on her Instagram page, teary Xandy expressed anger and deep sadness at the Ghanaian TV station.

According to her, the film was released just two days prior to this development, and she has not made even $10 from it.

“Why are some Ghanaians like this? You’ve managed to raise money to open a TV station, yet you’re saying you don’t have funds to buy content for it? I released a movie just two days ago and haven’t even made $10 from it, but Fast TV is pirating my film without my permission.

“I’m struggling to find anyone to help promote it. I’ve shared it with some bloggers to assist in promoting the movie, but none have taken the opportunity to help,” she stated in the video.

Xandy went on to reference a recent complaint made by Nigerian actress Mercy Johnson, who also accused a Ghanaian TV station, Blazing TV, of pirating her film.

She explained that she had supported Mercy Johnson’s post at the time but was met with skepticism, as some people claimed it was a publicity stunt.

“Last week, when Mercy Johnson voiced her complaints about her movie being pirated in Ghana, I commented on her post. Some people claimed it was just for promotion. Would you say my situation is also a promotional tactic?” she questioned.

The filmmaker ended her video by calling on the National Film Authority (NFA) and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts to take action and protect filmmakers from piracy in Ghana.

“I appeal to the National Film Authority and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts: please come to my aid,” she added.

Xandy Kamel now joins a list of filmmakers who have spoken out about the illegal broadcast of their movies on Ghanaian television stations.

Other affected filmmakers include Omoni Oboli, Ruth Kadiri, and Mercy Johnson.

Meanwhile, scores of stakeholders in the film industry have repeatedly called for stricter enforcement of copyright laws and better protection of creative works.
