Ace sports journalist Atta Poku has questioned the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) plan to host a retreat with stakeholders in Ghana’s football sphere.

After an Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, the GFA announced that, as part of efforts to revamp Ghana’s national teams, it would host a retreat on Thursday, November 28, 2024, to discuss crucial strategies with the media and other stakeholders.

However, after years of persistent complaints about the management style of the current administration where some believe previous suggestions have been ignored, in an interview with 3sports, Atta Poku expressed his distrust that this time would be any different.

“Now that they are doing this, I ask myself: is it any different from what the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Culture, and Sports is currently doing? No. The bigger question is, would the GFA put the suggestions they receive to use? Because they’ve shown in the past that they only do what they want and what they want alone,” he questioned.

With the GFA summoning Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo to a meeting next week, fans and stakeholders are waiting patiently on Otto Addo’s state while also keeping an eye on a possible opportunity to contribute to rebuilding Ghanaian football that many fans believe has deteriorated significantly in recent years.

Ghana finished bottom for the first time ever in an AFCON qualifying group as they picked up just three points from six games while also failing to record a victory at home. This comes after successive AFCON group stage exits in 2021 and 2023 where Ghana failed to win any of their group games.
