Set against Dubai’s iconic skyline, and coinciding with UAE National Day, the Opening Ceremony marked the beginning of the International Boxing Association (IBA)’s inaugural Festival of Boxing, running from December 2–13.

Under lights, fireworks and a world-class production set-up, fans witnessed a historic moment that symbolised not only the rise of Dubai as a global sporting capital, but also a bold new chapter for world boxing under the IBA.

Global rap superstar Rick Ross headlined the evening’s entertainment, delivering a powerhouse performance that had the capacity crowd in a frenzy. Performing his chart-toppers with trademark charisma, Ross ignited the audience and set the tone for a night where sport and music collided in spectacular harmony.

Ross’ showing cemented the Championships’ status as the most entertainment-driven event ever staged in amateur boxing, however his performance on a star-studded evening of musical talent from across the globe.

Egor Kreed, one of Russia’s most streamed artists, delivered an explosive set that had fans on their feet, while Dubai’s beloved radio icon, Kris Fade, embodied the spirit of the UAE’s multicultural entertainment scene with a set full of charm and energy.

Italian vocal star, Benedetta Caretta, captivated the audience with stirring melodies, such as Celine Dion iconic power ballad “My heart will go on” – and, finally, boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. took to the stage to perform his iconic rap tracks “Can’t Be Touched’ and ‘Y’all Must’ve Forgot’.

This dynamic line-up transformed the Opening Ceremony into a global celebration, perfectly mirroring the diverse roster of athletes arriving from over 118 nations who were called on the stage.

The evening also carried a deep cultural resonance as the IBA joined the United Arab Emirates in celebrating UAE National Day, honouring the Emirates’ unity, progress and global vision.

A special tribute featuring Emirati cultural performances highlighted the UAE’s rich heritage and its commitment to becoming a powerhouse in world sport.

IBA President Umar Kremlev emphasised the significance: “It is an honour to celebrate UAE National Day with the people of this great nation. Dubai represents the future—modern, global, and welcoming. It is the perfect home for this new era of boxing.”

One of the most emotional moments of the evening came from Rasheda Ali, daughter of the legendary Muhammad Ali.

Speaking at the ceremony alongside her boxer son, Nico Ali Walsh, shared heartfelt reflections: “I am proud that Mr. Umar Kremlev and the IBA are carrying forward my father Muhammad Ali’s legacy. My father believed in courage, respect and giving athletes a fair chance – and tonight, I see that spirit alive in Dubai.”

With a record-shattering $8.32 million prize-pool, the 2025 IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships is officially the richest amateur boxing event ever held.

Athletes from around the world will battle for glory over the next 12 days; representing nations, dreams and the hope of career-defining opportunities.

From its world-class staging to its seamless fusion of sport, culture and entertainment, the Opening Ceremony proved that Dubai is not just a host city – but a global benchmark for the future of mega sporting events.

As the action now shifts from the stage to the ring, one thing is clear: The IBA has rewritten the script for what a world boxing championship can be – and the world is watching.
