Popular broadcaster and Gee O’clock host, MzGee, has added her voice to discussions around the recent arrest of two nannies at East Legon for allegedly drugging their employer’s twin sons.

The incident has shaken public confidence in domestic childcare and reopened painful questions about trust, safety, and motherhood in Ghana.

Speaking passionately on her show, Gloria Akpene Nyarku, known in media circles as MzGee, said the incident reflected a growing crisis of trust between working mothers and the caregivers they depend on.

“Every mother who leaves home in the morning carries a silent prayer. You’re at work, but your mind is at home, wondering if your child is safe, if the nanny is kind, or if something terrible might happen,” she said.

MzGee fires back after criticism for having a child outside marriage

She noted that after childbirth, many women are forced back to work before they have fully recovered, physically or emotionally, because of limited maternity leave and the economic pressure to keep earning.

“Before we even resume work, the body is not fully healed. But you have to go because you need to make a living,” she said.

For her, molestations by nannies, which appear to be common nowadays, expose the fragile system that leaves mothers vulnerable and children unprotected. She described it as a wake-up call to confront the deeper issues of childcare, trust, and accountability in the home.

MzGee also urged families to choose caregivers more carefully and treat them with respect, arguing that the employer–nanny relationship often breaks down because of mutual resentment and a lack of understanding.

“If you don’t have the emotional maturity or patience to care for a child, don’t take that job,” she cautioned. “A child is not a chore.”

She further called for a national conversation about how society supports motherhood and values childcare.

“Motherhood shouldn’t be this frightening. We must do better — for the sake of our children,” she said.
