A Nigerian woman has taken to Facebook to share a harrowing experience involving her teenage daughter, who left home without permission earlier this year to visit her absentee father.

According to her detailed account, the incident occurred in January 2025, when her eldest daughter left their home in Abuja without informing anyone of her whereabouts.

Distraught and fearing the worst, the mother reported her missing at a police station and endured two days of sleepless nights, battling thoughts of kidnapping and other dangers.

On the third day, during a follow-up visit to the police station, two female officers suggested she contact the girl’s father.

The mother explained that she had not been in touch with him for years, and his known phone numbers had long been inactive. After persistent efforts, she managed to find a working number through a contact list from 2020.

To her shock, the father revealed that the daughter had just arrived in Lagos, having traveled alone overnight from Abuja, without a phone and under his guidance.

However, instead of taking the girl into his home, the father reportedly dropped her off at a relative’s house and disappeared.

For three months, the mother had no contact with her daughter and only resumed communication in April when the girl began pleading to return home.

Despite her absence, the mother continued to support her daughter remotely, sending supplies through Facebook and Instagram vendors.

Ten months later, the daughter has reportedly still not seen her father again and remains uncertain whether he actually lives in Lagos.

Now in October, the mother says she has decided to bring her daughter back, admitting that despite everything, she remains her child and her responsibility.

The story has sparked conversation online about with the majority stating that the woman did the right thing.
