ARNE Slot has confirmed that Florian Wirtz will miss Liverpool’s next two fixtures through injury.

Wirtz withdrew from the side to face Nottingham Forest earlier this month due to a back issue and has missed the club’s last two fixtures.

Slot said last week that he was unsure on the timeframe for Wirtz’s return, and has confirmed Liverpool will be aiming for a fifth consecutive Liverpool will again be without the Germany international in midweek.

The Reds travel to face Wolves in the Premier League on Tuesday night, as the club continue their bid for Champions League qualification.

It’s the first of two fixtures against Wolves in just three days, with the teams also meeting in the FA Cup fifth round on Friday night at Molineux.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Slot confirmed that Wirtz will not play a role in either fixture against Wolves, but outlined his hope that the 22-year-old could return to face Galatasaray in the Champions League next week.

“Not anything different than what I said after the game [on Saturday],” the Dutchman said to the media on Monday morning.

“The game tomorrow will probably come too soon and maybe the game at the weekend as well. Let’s see how that ends up.

“But we hope to have him back somewhere next week. Maybe earlier. Maybe a bit later. But that timescale.” -Football Muse
