Former Black Stars star and 1978 AFCON champion, Willie Klutse, has called on young Ghanaian footballers heading abroad to maintain discipline and remain focused on their careers to avoid serious legal and personal problems.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Klutse made his comments in the context of reports that former Arsenal and Ghana midfielder, Thomas Partey, faces two additional rape charges in the UK, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Klutse also highlighted the importance of planning for life beyond football. He said:

“When you decide to play football abroad, you must know why you are there and what you want to achieve. Staying focused is key. If you ignore advice and lose direction, no one will invest in your career or your time.”

    He added:

“A football career is short. You might only compete at a high level for about 15 years, after which you have to move on. Young players need to be clear about their goals and stay disciplined to make the most of their opportunities.”

Klutse, who continues to be involved with the Black Stars, also reminded players that professionalism on and off the field is essential for long-term success. Ghana’s national team is set to face England in the upcoming World Cup group stage in the United States, while legal proceedings concerning Partey continue in the UK.
