Best selling author and wife of Weezer bassist Jillian Shriner has dodged jail time after she was arrested for allegedly opening fire at Los Angeles police officers.
Jillian Shriner, 52, was granted the right to enter a two-year mental health diversion program that could potentially lift the two gun felony charges filed against her.
‘Any violation reported to the court may result in potential termination of the diversion,’ the DA’s office told NBC4.
‘If she successfully completes the conditions of the diversion, the case will be dismissed by the court.’
A health diversion program allows charged individuals who have a mental health condition to receive a treatment based program instead of traditional prosecution.
The judge also ordered Shriner to attend weekly counseling and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, along with random drug and alcohol testing. She is unable to possess any guns or weapons.
As part of the program, Shriner must also abstain from illicit drugs and alcohol.
‘We think this was the right resolution,’ Shriner’s lawyer, Hilary Lee Potashner, told the Rolling Stone.

Her attorney was ‘very pleased’ to hear she was eligible for this program and for the potential dismissal of charges.
On April 9, Shriner was shot in the arm in her Los Angeles backyard and later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after she supposedly pointed a weapon and fired at cops, whom she claimed to have confused with armed criminals on her property.
The authorities were on the scene because a hit-and-run suspect had been reported in the area – allegedly stripping down to his boxer shorts and jumping in a resident’s swimming pool in a bizarre attempt to dodge his arrest.
While searching for the suspect, LAPD encountered the rocker’s armed wife and the situation rapidly escalated into a shootout.
Shriner was treated for the non-life-threatening arm injury and was later booked into jail.
She was freed on $1 million bail and a 9mm firearm was seized from her home, according to the LAPD.

The LAPD claimed Shriner shot first, and District Attorney Nathan Hochman charged her with felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm and felony discharge of a firearm with gross negligence.
The 52-year-old pleaded not guilty to both felony gun charges, if convicted, could have a prison sentence up to 19 years.
Successfully completing the two year mental health diversion program means Shriner can avoid jail time altogether.
The best selling author has been married to Weezer bassist Scott Shriner since 2005, and the couple has two adopted children.
