In the release of his latest video on YouTube, popular American YouTube creator Jimmy Donaldson, aka Mr Beast, detailed how he rebuilt 10 schools around the world, including in Ghana, Ecuador, India and the United States.

But a highlight of the video was when Mr Beast was captured being enstooled as a chief of development in one of the communities he had transformed.

The portion of the video showed the content creator, draped in a traditional Ghanaian outfit, at the enstooling ceremony.

He was later spotted on a traditional chair while a community leader praised him for his efforts.

Mr Beast, in his speech, could be heard saying, “You didn’t need to do all this for me. Thank you.”

A Development Chief (Nkosuohene or Nkosuohemaa) in Ghana is an honorary traditional title bestowed by local chiefs upon individuals, often from the diaspora or business sector, who have initiated development of philanthropic projects in the community.

So why was Mr Beast given the title?

In a video posted on his YouTube channel on February 21, 2026, Mr Beast and his team had rebuilt schools in two undisclosed communities in Ghana.

In the first community, they had completely torn down the school, which had been deemed too dangerous for use.

The school was then rebuilt and fully furnished with a borehole to provide water for the school and the community.

In the second school, based in another undisclosed community, the only existing school block wasn’t torn down but renovated and refurbished.

Two new fully furnished school blocks were also added to the renovated block.

The video showed the jubilant students and community members praising Mr Beast for his intervention.

Additionally, two teachers, identified as Joseph and Emmanuel, who spent the majority of their salaries commuting to the school, were gifted a two-apartment teacher’s bungalow fully furnished for them.

A fully stocked kitchen was also built for the school, with Mr Beast announcing that the school would receive free lunches everyday until May 2030, courtesy of the Rockefeller Foundation.

A new borehole to supply water for both the school and the communities was also provided, as well as washroom facilities for the school.

For his efforts, Mr Beast was enstooled as the community’s development chief.
