A superyacht worth an estimated half a billion dollars was spotted off the coast of San Diego, and locals weren’t too pleased with its grandeur in their waters.
The yacht, which appeared to have ‘Attessa IV’ inscribed on the back, had those who live in the California city slamming the owner for ‘flaunting their wealth.’
A local took a photo of the superyacht and shared it to a Reddit thread for San Diego residents. Users were quick to share their thoughts in the comment section.
‘It doesn’t even look good. Sad,’ one comment read while another suggested, ‘Y’all should trash these yachts. Stop letting billionaires pollute the earth.’
‘I don’t know the owner, but I already know I don’t like them. The audacity it takes to have a 150 million dollar yacht. Billionaires are evil,’ a fourth added.
However, some were a little more positive, with one writing: ‘I stare at that thing in amazement whenever I’m out there fishing.’ Another said: ‘That’s actually pretty cool design. Not into billionaires but the ship is bad a**.’
Billionaire industrialist Dennis Washington reportedly owned the Attessa IV, according to previous reporting by Forbes.
Washington purchased the yacht in 2007 for $50 million and spent four years and an estimated $200 million renovating it. Washington told Forbes that over 225 people worked on refurbishing the yacht.

Some locals reacting to the photo of the ship in the harbor recognized that it was owned by the tycoon, writing: ‘Oh s**t that guy is from Montana! The foot stadium is named after him. He’s a railroad tycoon I think, richest man in the state.’
Other residents in the area were less kind about what they wanted to happened to the sizeable yacht, with one writing: ‘Let’s sink it and eat the rich!’
Another chimed in: ‘I can’t be the only person disgusted by these.’
While some were confused at the seismic price of the vessel: ‘No way is this yacht worth more than Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property. It doesn’t even look like a super yacht.’
The Attessa was originally built in 1999 by Evergreen Shipyard in Japan. It’s equipped with a full spa, a gym, and a pool. The ship can accommodate 18 guests and has a crew of 26, per Super Yacht Times.
The superyacht is also equipped with a helipad and six decks. Metallic Gucci lounge chairs are scattered throughout the ship.
Washington is the richest person in Montana with a net worth of $7.4 billion. He is ranked 386 of the world’s richest people, according to Forbes.
He owns Washington Companies which operates marine transportation, heaving equipment businesses, and copper mining. Washington started his career as a heavy-crane operator in Alaska before launching Washington Construction.

In 2018, the ship was involved in a fatal collision off the coast of San Diego. The Attessa IV crashed into a commercial shipping boat called the Prowler.
The Coast Guard responded to the collision and rescued 29 passengers, 17 of which were aboard the fishing boat, the Great Falls Tribune reported at the time. Washington, nor his family members, were on board during the collision.
Two injuries were reported and one passenger named Richard Neff died. Neff was airlifted to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Attessa IV is now on sale for $111,659,600 and is ranked at number 80 for the largest yachts in the world, according to Super Yacht Times. There are less than 3,000 yachts for sale in the world.
