A devastating helicopter crash claimed the lives of eight prominent individuals, leaving the country in mourning and grappling with profound questions.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah reflected on the tragedy, noting that over the past three days, Ghanaians have been asking themselves why this happened to these individuals, why it occurred now, and why it transpired in such a manner.

During a somber vigil, Debrah expressed the collective grief, saying, “Over three days, we have asked the question in self-doubt, we have questioned our faith and dared to ask, why them, why now and why this way? Our hearts continue to bleed.”

He emphasized the spirit of unity and resilience that has defined the Ghana’s response to the tragedy.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications, paid tribute to the deceased, urging Ghanaians to draw inspiration from their legacies.

“Let us never forget the price they paid in the line of duty, and may their legacy inspire us to uphold the ideals of service,” he said, calling on citizens to work harder for the country’s development.

The victims included Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment Murtala Mohammed, former Ashanti Regional Minister Samuel Sarpong, Muniru Mohammed (Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator), and Samuel Aboagye, a former Member of Parliament.

The crew members were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that the helicopter, which was headed to Obuasi, went off the radar before crashing on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Eyewitnesses reported that the aircraft was burned beyond recognition, leaving no chance of survival.

Infact, as we mourn the departed souls, leaders and Ghanaians alike are coming together to pay their respects and reflect on the sacrifices made by the deceased.

The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the country, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash.
