Black Stars coach Otto Addo has reportedly fallen out with a number of key players in the team who are unhappy with some stringent rules he has instituted, ace sports journalist Saddick Adams has said.
According to Saddick Adams, Otto Addo, in his bid to instill discipline in the team, might have stepped on the toes of some players who are unhappy with his new rules.
Sports Obama, as he is widely known, disclosed that innovations such as compulsory breakfast, fines for lateness, and scolding of players are some of the initiatives taken by Otto Addo which have displeased the players.
Another factor that has affected the Black Stars under Otto Addo is the feeling among the players that it takes them a while to recover their club form whenever they come on national assignment.
“Otto Addo has lost the dressing room. One player told me that Otto Addo introduced some quite unpopular things among the playing body.
“He has introduced compulsory breakfast, which is a norm at the club level. He also instituted fines for lateness. One player told me that they were late for a meeting and he scolded them in front of the players.
“Otto Addo has lost all the key players except for just two. He has lost most of them. Due to some of the issues he took during the qualifiers, he lost some of the players.
“The real issue is that some of the players believe that it takes them about five games to recover their form whenever they come to play for the country. There is a toxic environment in the team,” he said this on the ABN Sports segment.
His revelations come amid confirmations that Otto Addo will stay on as head coach of the Black Stars.
According to the chairman of the Management Committee of the Black Stars, Dr. Randy Abbey, the GFA will retain Otto Addo but sack the assistant coaches.
“We think the GFA has made its decision already,” Abbey told Original FM.
“The GFA is keeping Otto Addo. Right now, the focus is on the World Cup qualifiers. We will be ensuring that we reverse the poor trend of results that led to the team’s failure to qualify for AFCON. We need to change course and put the Black Stars back on the winning path,” he earlier said.
