NAPO, also known as Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has urged Parliament to halt all legislative actions, including the deliberation of bills, until the next administration takes power. Following the results of the most recent elections, the member of parliament and minister of energy stressed the necessity of a “reset” in Ghanaian governance during a recent session.

In his remarks, NAPO argued that the new government should lead the process and presented a strong argument against moving forward with any measures, whether they were social or environmental in character.

“We shouldn’t even bother doing those other things because they have been shown to be incorrect. Why should we take on any bills right now? “We are resetting, and I agree that Ghanaians voted for resetting,” he said, adding that the new government should take office and begin working on any bills, whether they are social or environmental.

NAPO went on to say that Parliament should only concentrate on important issues, such as the vote on account and concluding the current term’s procedures. The second and third readings of measures, among other legislative actions, could wait for the next administration, he said.

“Mr. Speaker, we just need to close up and take the vote into consideration. We shouldn’t carry on with any business here because, as I previously stated, Ghanaians have voted for Nkok Nketenkete’s resetting agenda,” he continued, alluding to the electorate’s apparent desire for a new beginning.

He emphasized the significance of giving essential issues, such as business pertaining to Article 71 and making sure officials have appropriate end-of-service arrangements, top priority.

In addition, Mr. Speaker, everything else should wait, including the social protection law, the second and third readings of the bill, and perhaps his end-of-service rewards, which he is quite interested in. For the sake of Ghana’s decent citizens, we must take the appropriate action,” NAPO said.
