Dutch player of Ghanaian descent, Jeremie Frimpong, has shared his thoughts on the debate between Ghanaian and Nigerian music.

He explained that having listened to both Ghanaian and Nigerian songs for quite some time, he is more excited by the music of Nigerian artistes, which he believes has better quality.

The Dutch player stated that the successes of some top Nigerian artistes like Burna Boy, Asake, Davido, and Wizkid place them ahead of their Ghanaian counterparts, who are also doing well in their endeavors.

Speaking to the media after Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-0 victory against Inter Milan in the Champions League, Frimpong recounted a moment he attended a concert by Asake.

“I listen to both Ghanaian music and Nigerian music, but Nigerian music is top because there are so many good musicians. It is difficult to have a favorite artiste, but Asake is good. I went to his concert, and it was top. They have Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido,” he said.

There has been a conversation among many Africans about which music industry is better than the other, as both have produced top artistes who continue to win global awards.

Frimpong was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands to Ghanaian parents.

Jeremie Frimpong made his debut for the Netherlands national team in October 2023, when they lost 2-1 to France in the 2024 Euro qualifiers.

He was a member of the Netherlands squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup but did not make any appearances at the tournament.

He has been an integral part of Leverkusen’s success in recent times, especially during the 2023/24 season, where the team won the German Bundesliga with an unbeaten record and the DFB Pokal trophy.
