One conspicuous development from the post-event meetings around the murder of Kumasi Asante Kotoko supporter, Francis Frimpong, alias Nana Pooley, has been the absence of the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku.

Since the incident occurred on Sunday, February 2, 2025, Kurt Okraku has yet to be spotted in any of the engagements held so far.

His absence was even more profound when officials of the Ghana Football Association met the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, on Monday, February 10, 2025, as he kicked off his tenure as the sector minister.

Kurt Okraku’s absence, according to ace sports journalist Bright Kankam Boadu, is due to his engagement in campaign duties.

Kurt Okraku is campaigning for a seat at the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football, and according to Kankam Boadu, he has given his personal ambitions priority over the collective issues of Ghana sports.

“Where is the President of the Ghana Football Association? Where is the General Secretary of the FA? When the issue happened, the IGP travelled all the way to Kumasi to see the family and Kotoko, but the GFA was nowhere to be found. We can’t find the GFA. He is eyeing a post in CAF, so he is campaigning,” he said.

Following the incident at Nsoatre, which claimed the life of a popular Kumasi Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Frimpong, alias Nana Pooley, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have released a joint statement demanding the implementation of twelve (12) things before they make a u-turn on their boycott of the Ghana Premier League.

The clubs raised twelve key issues that need to be addressed, including fully implementing the Gbadegbe Commission report and deploying no less than 100 police personnel to match venues.

Additionally, the clubs emphasized the need for the league to be made autonomous and run by an independent management team. They also urged the GFA to work towards exempting match proceeds from VAT and other similar deductions.

In a statement released on February 10, 2025, both clubs requested representation on the GFA Executive Council to have a say in decision-making.
